Mary Ellen Countryman
Mary Ellen Countryman arrived in Florence as Consul General in September, 2008. Her prior postings include St. Petersburg, Rangoon, Tokyo, Milan, Rome, and Washington, where she served as Senior Director for Public Affairs at the National Security Council, and Deputy White House Press Secretary.
Enrico Rossi
Elected in March, 2010, Enrico Rossi (PD Democratic Party) is the seventh President of the Region of Tuscany. A journalist and politician, after university, Rossi worked for a brief period as a journalist for the daily Il Tirreno. Turning to politics, he was elected to the municipal administration of Pontedera. In 1990, at age 32, he was elected mayor of Pontedera, remaining in office until 1999. In 2000, he entered the regional administration for the first time, becoming Tuscany's superintendent of health.

My interest in and friendship for the United States dates back to a first visit there in September 1972, proposed and invited by the US Consulate General in Florence as a guest of the US government.
Elected as a representative to the national Parliament in May of the same year, this invitation for a month-long sojourn offered me the opportunity to learn about political and institutional life, social and economic realities and customs of the United States.

A graduate in psychology of Vassar College in the United States, four years at United Nations Headquarters in New York as assistant to the Undersecretary for Personnel and for one year as a Pediatric Social worker at Bellevue Hospital in New York, in 1968 moved to Florence and married a Florentine physician ; has three children and three grandchildren.

Always particularly interested in education and the young, has dedicated her time to programs and projects which offer young people new experiences and participation as citizens of the world.

A Durant Scholar/Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Wellesley College, she completed her education at Harvard Law School in 1979. Graduated in March 1973 at the University of Bologna, School of Mechanical Engineering with full votes, and in April of the same year initiated his professional activities employed by an engineering company, responsible in the energy sector, first in Milan and subsequently in the Brazilian branch in San Paolo in a technical capacity.

A graduate in English and French of a Linguistic Lycee in Florence, in 1967 Giuseppina Morelli enrolled at the Institute of Psychosynthesis of Florence where she followed classes, courses, and conferences for a period of fourteen years. In the 1970’s, she perfected her knowledge of languages at the Bristish Institute and the Grenoble Institute in Florence. She also attended a diploma course for Assistant in Child Care offered by Prof. Ferrao at the University of Florence.
